A CALL FOR CALL – part 3
Welcome back! After a longer break, I am glad to post again. My today’s entry is a practical one, encouraging you to dive into the realm of CALL and expand your knowledge.
The Internet is a bottomless well of education resources. Aware of the fact, I would like to draw your attention particularly to two noteworthy teacher education sites:
- Information and Communications Technology For Language Teachers (ICT4LT) website is a collection of five modules for each basic, intermediate, and advanced training in CALL.
- Teaching and Learning Languages Enhanced by New Technologies (TALLENT) website, also available in Polish, has courses online, sample projects, and reference list for nine modules designed for in-service training. This project is founded by the European Commission under the SOCRATES Programme, LINGUA Action.
Moreover, the vast interest in Computer-Assisted Language Learning led to the appearance of online journals which occupy with this subject matter. The below list created by Lamy and Hampel (2007: 216-217) includes major journals dedicated to CALL:
- Computer Assisted Language Learning – an intercontinental and interdisciplinary journal dealing with the use of computers in language learning (L1 and L2), teaching and testing. Frequency: 5 issues per year.
- The CALICO Journal – a journal devoted to research and discussion on technology and language learning.
- ReCALL – a journal published by Cambridge University Press on behalf of EUROCALL. Frequency: 3 issues per year.
- Language Learning and Technology – a refereed journal for second and foreign language educators. It is the most widely quoted international journal in CALL and CMCL (Computer-Mediated Communication Learning).
- JALTCALL – an international journal on CALL published from 2005. Frequency: 3 issues per year.
- System – an international journal of educational technology and applied linguistics.
- PacCALL – the journal of the Pacific Association for Computer-Assisted Language Learning.
DO NOT HESITATE and get some idea from the above resources!
