LESSON PLAN: Holiday destination
Level(s): (B1/B2) Intermediate/Upper-Intermediate
Aimed at: Teenagers/young adults/adults
Aims: To practise authentic listening skills/ Speaking/cultural focus

Answer Key: 1: Medieval history; 2: Delicious local food; 3: Outdoor adventure; 4: Awesome theatres; 5: World class golf courses; 6: Crafts capital of Ireland; 7: Great pubs.
Time: +/- 90 minutes
- A warm-up/chain game. Say the name of a country that you would like to visit this summer and ask one of the students to think of a country whose name begins with the last letter of your country. E.g. if you said “Ireland”, the student´s country has to begin with the letter "D". Students play the game until they run of of ideas. +/- 5 minutes
- Write the following on the board:
A perfect _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Ask the students to guess what the missing word is: HOLIDAY
Tell the class what your idea of a perfect holiday is, e.g. Sunset on the beach with George Clooney :-D. - Ask the students to work in pairs and answer the following question:
- What makes a perfect holiday?
Write student´s ideas on the board, e.g. Great beaches Kasia said; Sleeping in a tent Magda said, etc. +/- 10 minutes

- Ask the students if they have ever been to Ireland, if not, would they like to go?
Students work in pairs and tell one another what is Ireland famous for. Get whole class feedback. +/- 10 minutes - Tell the students that they are going to watch a short video:

In the video, an Irishman asked his mum/sister/girlfriend/brother/dad/uncle and lads (you might want to pre-teach “lads”) about their perfect holiday activities. Students watch the video and complete handout 1. Tell students to compare their answers in pairs before you play the video again. +/- 10 minutes - Organise students in groups of three and ask them to tell each other which activities they would choose to do in Kilkenny. +/- 5 minutes
- Students work in small groups and create a poster promoting one of their country´s region. You might want to have a laptop and a printer set up in the class to help out with images. Here is a sample made by a B1 group of Portuguese teenagers.
